Brotte La Fiole du Pape, also known as 'Papa's Flask', is a French Rhone Valley wine produced from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre grapes. The namesake of the wine comes from a story of a young Provencal girl named Francoise, who was blessed by Pope Pius IX and given a flask of wine as a reward for her faith. The wine was eventually passed through her family for generations and in 1976, Julien Brotte, founder of the Brotte winery, decided to turn the legend into reality and crafted a wine in its honor. Each vintage is composed of 50% Grenache for richness of fruit, 40% Syrah for structure and 10% Mourvedre for earthiness. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging for 12 months in French oak barrels.
