Espolón Añejo is an ultra-premium anejo tequila produced by the company Tequila Cabeza LLC. This tequila is made from 100% blue agave harvested in the region surrounding the city of Jalisco, Mexico. It has been aged for a minimum of three years in American and French oak barrels, achieving a unique, complex flavor with notes of cocoa, roasted almonds, cinnamon, and a hint of caramel. The anejo is bottled in hand-blown, polished glass decanters and is said to represent the highest quality of tequila. The anejo has a light golden hue and a thick, oily texture. On the nose, notes of cooked agave, dried fruits, mixed nuts, and cinnamon are present. On the palate, there are flavors of roasted agave, spice, cocoa, and dark chocolate. The finish is quite smooth with a lingering finish of roasted almonds and oaky notes. Espolón Añejo is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, and pairs well with Mexican dishes. It has been recognized for its quality multiple times, winning gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
