The Inchgower Distillery is located in the fishing port of Buckie, near the Moray Firth in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery is owned by Diageo and is one of the lesser-known malt whisky producers in the Speyside region. Inchgower was founded in 1871 by Alexander Wilson, and the peated malt whisky produced there is known for its smoky, lightly peated flavor. The distillery saw a period of closure between 1902 and 1937, before being reopened by William Lundie. The 1990s saw Inchgower begin to produce single malt whisky, and in December 1998, it released its first official single malt whisky bottling – The Inchgower 1st Edition. This limited edition single malt whisky is aged in ex-oloroso sherry casks and was the first official release of Inchgower whisky from Diageo. The Inchgower 1st Edition is a rich, full-bodied whisky, with notes of spices, sherry and smoke. It is a great introduction to the malt whisky produced at Inchgower and is highly sought-after by collectors.
