Glen Garioch Founder’s Reserve is considered one of the oldest single malt Scotch whisky distilleries in Scotland. It has been in operation since 1797, and the distillery is located in Old Meldrum in the Highlands of Scotland. The Founder’s Reserve was released in 1997 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the distillery’s founding. Glen Garioch Founder’s Reserve is a full-bodied single malt whiskey with a smooth, sweet character. It is predominantly aged in refill bourbon and sherry seasoned whiskey casks for a minimum of nine years. This gives it a sweet and spicy flavor with an aroma full of fruit with a hint of honey and a toasty maltiness. The flavor is floral and delicate with notes of toffee and dried fruit. The finish is long and gentle with a subtle sweetness. The whiskey is best served neat or with a few drops of water to bring out its full complexity. It is an excellent Scotch for sipping on its own and pairs nicely with aged cheeses, smoked meats, and creamy desserts.
